Day 18

Welcome to Day 18 of the 40day180!

What influences my ability to obey the Word of God according to 1 Corinthians 15:33, Matthew 6:21-23, and Proverbs 12:26?

The people we surround ourselves with have an impact on our lives (1 Corinthians 15:33). Take for instance a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup; one time I found one of these in a container filled with mints. When I ate the Reese’s, it had a minty flavor. The same principal is true in that the people we surround ourselves with have an impact on our lives. This is why 1 Corinthians 6:14-15 is so critical. We need to make sure we are surrounding ourselves with people that will bring us closer to God. (Proverbs 13:20). In addition to this, what we fill our minds with through our eyes and ears impacts our ability to obey God’s Word as well (Matthew 6:21-23). We should choose to spend time with God in His Word every day. This is what builds up our faith (Jude 1:20). We should continually review what we fill our minds with and ask God if we need to eliminate any of them.

1 Corinthians 6:14-18

14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.” 17 But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit. 18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.

Proverbs 3:1-25

My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity. Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; 10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine. 11 My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, 12 because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.13 Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, 14 for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. 15 She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. 16 Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. 17 Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. 18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed. 19 By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place; 20 by his knowledge the watery depths were divided, and the clouds let drop the dew. 21 My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; 22 they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. 23 Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. 24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie own, your sleep will be sweet. 25 Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,

Psalm 119:133 – Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.

John 14:21 – Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

Take a look at your life and identify at least one area in which you know you are not choosing to obey the Word. Then do a google search for a scripture on that area.  Make an affirmation for yourself to speak and proclaim in moments of temptation.

I choose to seek God first everyday by getting into His Word. I choose to walk in the plan God has for me by choosing to live the Word of God in every area of my life. I thank You Father that as I choose to obey Your Word, You are protecting me, directing my footsteps according to Your Word, and filling me with Your Holy Spirit.
